This powerful SEL practice aligns with the CASEL Competencies of Responsible Decision Making and Self Awareness. The intention of this moving practice is to create space for students to reflect on what they want for the school year and beyond. This is a perfect activity for back-to-school time to set goals and have an intention to refer back to throughout the year.

Hopes & dreams is one strategy to build Universal Intelligence, one of the five layers of Human Intelligence. The more we understand, embody, and teach Human Intelligence, the more we co-create what education was always meant to be. Dr. Ilana Nankin is the Founder and Co-CEO of Breathe for Change and an award-winning entrepreneur, teacher educator, and former public school teacher. She holds degrees from UC Berkeley and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, with research demonstrating the link between educator well-being, SEL, and student learning.
