DAY 1 | Tuesday, August 4 at 4-5:15pm PT | 7-8:15pm ET
Human Intelligence: Unleash Your Teaching Superpower in the Age of AII
AI is changing how students access information, complete assignments, and make sense of the world. As technology becomes more powerful, educators are facing an urgent question: How do we ensure students continue to think for themselves, connect with others, and develop the human capacities they will need to thrive?
This powerful opening keynote introduces the five essential layers of Human Intelligence: cognitive, emotional, somatic, relational, and universal. Together, these layers shape how we think, feel, connect, adapt, create meaning, and act with purpose.
Led by Co-Founders Dr. Ilana Nankin and Michael Fenchel, this session will help educators explore how Human Intelligence can guide teaching and learning in the age of AI. You’ll discover practical ways to use technology without losing student voice, critical thinking, creativity, or the deeply human relationships at the heart of education.
You’ll leave this keynote ready to:
🦸♀️ Understand the five essential layers of Human Intelligence and why they matter more than ever
🧠 Protect critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and connection in the age of AI
🤖 Use technology as a tool without allowing it to replace meaningful learning
❤️ Strengthen the human capacities no machine can replicate
⚡ Enter the 2026–27 school year with greater clarity, confidence, and intention
AI may be a new tool, but your Human Intelligence is your greatest superpower.

DAY 2 | Wednesday, August 5 at 4-5:15pm PT | 7-8:15pm ET
Focus: Activate the Emotional Foundation for Attention and Thinking
Every superhero needs the ability to tune out the noise and focus on what matters most. Our students do, too.
In a world of constant notifications, digital distractions, competing demands, and growing cognitive overload, attention is becoming harder to sustain. But focus cannot simply be demanded. Students are better able to concentrate, persist, and think deeply when they feel emotionally safe, grounded, and ready to learn.
This interactive workshop explores the powerful interplay between the cognitive and emotional layers of Human Intelligence. You’ll learn how emotions influence attention, memory, motivation, and problem-solving, along with practical strategies that help students move through stress, frustration, boredom, and distraction.
Through evidence-based practices, reflection, and classroom-ready tools, you’ll discover how to create the emotional conditions students need to access curiosity, creativity, and deeper thinking.
You’ll leave this workshop ready to:
🎯 Create emotional conditions that support attention, learning, and critical thinking
🧠 Help students recognize what is affecting their focus
❤️ Strengthen emotional awareness, regulation, and confidence
💪 Build persistence and frustration tolerance when learning feels difficult
⚡ Use simple routines that help students reset, refocus, and reengage throughout the school day
Before students can power up their thinking, they need to feel ready to learn.
(Note: PD certificates are issued to people who attend live.)

DAY 3 | Thursday, August 6 at 4-5:15pm PT | 7-8:15pm ET
Engage: Build Belonging, Purpose, and Student Ownership
The strongest classrooms are not powered by compliance. They are powered by students who feel that they belong, understand why their learning matters, and know that their contributions count.
As educators enter the 2026–27 school year, many are facing low motivation, passive participation, and students who have become increasingly dependent on adults or technology to direct their learning. Meaningful engagement requires more than attention. Students need relationships that help them feel known and a sense of purpose that gives them a reason to care.
This energizing grand finale explores the relational and universal layers of Human Intelligence: the uniquely human abilities to build trust, cultivate belonging, connect learning to meaning, and contribute to something larger than ourselves.
Through relationship-centered practices, purposeful reflection, and practical classroom strategies, you’ll learn how to help students move from simply completing work to taking meaningful ownership of their learning.
You’ll leave this workshop ready to:
🫶 Build authentic trust, connection, and belonging from the beginning of the school year
🌎 Help students connect their learning to their lives, values, communities, and futures
💬 Create meaningful opportunities for student voice, choice, and contribution
⚡ Move students from passive participation toward greater motivation and ownership
🌟 Build a classroom culture where every student feels that they matter and have something valuable to contribute
When students feel connected to one another and to something bigger, they do more than show up. They engage and thrive.

Founder & Co-CEO
Dr. Ilana Nankin — Founder and Co-CEO of Breathe for Change — is an award-winning entrepreneur, teacher educator, and former public school teacher. Ilana earned degrees in psychology and education from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her dissertation revealed the critical connection between educator well-being and student learning, and the transformative impact of wellness and social-emotional learning on classroom communities.
Inspired by her research, she founded Breathe for Change — a movement dedicated to bringing wellness, inspiration, and community to every educator and student in the world. As one of the lead professors of this Human Intelligence course, Ilana weaves her expertise in embodied awareness, social-emotional learning, and systemic well-being throughout the curriculum. Her leadership and vision ground the course’s theory of change: empowering educators to transform themselves, transform their teaching, and ultimately transform the way students learn. Ilana lives in San Francisco, and is also the proud mother of two precious daughters, Aliya and Zoe, and applies everything she knows from being a pre-k teacher to her role as a parent.
